Sharon Peacock focuses on the translation of microbial whole genome sequencing technologies into diagnostic and public health microbiology. She is funded to develop tools for transmission tracking, outbreak investigation, and genetic prediction of antimicrobial resistance for a broad range of pathogens. Sharon also has strong links with South East Asia, having spent 7 years at the Wellcome Trust Major Overseas Programme in Thailand where she directed a wide-ranging programme of bacterial disease research, including a major interest in Burkholderia pseudomallei (the cause of melioidosis). Sharon chairs the Cambridge Infectious Diseases Initiative, and is deputy chair of the MRC Infection and Immunity Board.
